Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate aspects of quality of life of smokers participating in a smoking cessation program as anxiety and depression. 20 patients participating in a smoking cessation program which includes educational lectures, medical and psychosocial assessment, oral examination and clarification of the damage caused by tobacco use will be evaluated for quality of life before and three months after the initial treatment. To evaluate the quality of life four questionnaires will be used: a generic, the SF36, and three specific: Lifestyle Fantastic, SRQ-20 for assessment of depression, and Idate / t to assess state and trait anxiety. The hypothesis is that participants have impaired social and emotional aspects, with a tendency to react more anxiety before the termination situation. This condition can be reversed with tobacco cessation treatment.
