Abstract

Levothyroxine is a hormone normally produced by the body by the thyroid gland. This medication is prescribed for patients who have deficiency of this hormone in the body (mainly patients with hypothyroidism).The CEATOX-SP is located in the Instituto da Criança of Hospital das Clinicas, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo. Its main objective is to provide specific information on an emergency basis to health professionals and the general population at poisoning eventualities, exposure to toxic substances, contamination with pesticides, accidents with poisonous animals and adverse drug reactions, via telephone, helping in diagnosis and treatment. All cases are recorded and made a form of care that is stored in its database.The objective of this project is to evaluate the epidemiology of cases of adverse events involving levothyroxine reported to CEATOX-SP and may thereby have a better knowledge of these events and develop strategies for the prevention of such events.
