Abstract

Cannabidiol (CBD), a compound of the cannabis sativa plant, has been investigated in animal and human studies. These studies corroborate the hypothesis of the anxiolytic effect of this compound, as well as its interference in the reconsolidation and extinction of aversive memories. It is to evaluate whether the administration of 300 mg of CBD before remembrance of the traumatic event attenuates the anxiety symptoms produced by this recall in people diagnosed with PTSD. A total of 40 male and female individuals aged 18-60 years who are diagnosed with PTSD according to SCID-V and who agree to participate in the study will be screened. All participants will be subject to the inclusion and exclusion criteria and, if they fit the study, will be scheduling one day to start the tests. On that day (Day 1), BMI will be calculated and applied to PCL-5 and then randomly divided into two groups to additionally receive CBD (300mg) or placebo in a double-blind procedure. Also on that day, tests will be performed to evaluate the physiological correlates (PA, FC and CS) and psychological (IDATE-E and VAMS). After that, a reminder will be given of the aversive event, which includes recording the traumatic event report, followed by the request to imagine the trauma for thirty seconds in the most vivid way possible. After the test, the physiological and psychological correlates will be reevaluated. Seven days later (Day 2), participants in a laboratory setting should receive CBD or placebo. After 2.5 h, the physiological and psychological correlates will be checked and participants will be reexposed to the recall test. New measurements will be made. After 7 days (Day 3), participants will be submitted to the same procedure as Day 2, but without pharmacological intervention. The results of this project may contribute to a better understanding of the potential therapeutic effects of CBD and provide data for new clinical applications of the drug
