Abstract

The "Cerrado" vegetation is a priority for conservation and restoration due his historical degradation. Much of the "Cerrado" vegetation is today fragmented, which hinders their recovery. Currently, there are legal mechanisms to protect and dispose about their use, such as the Federal Law 12,651 / 2012 (New Forest Code) and Law No. 13,550 / 2009 of São Paulo, the only state law for the "Cerrado" vegetation. In this study, we have been sought specific techniques for the restoration of this kind of vegetation, but its ecological dynamics is sometimes unknown and complex, requiring effort to be successful in implementation of restoration projects, needed in situations arising from environmental crimes, environmental programs and scientific interests. The knowledge of the most suitable species for use in these projects is important for the definition of ecological restoration strategies in degraded "Cerrado" vegetation areas, and its lack leads to the use of exotic species. The aim of this study is to monitor the development of tree species in a "Cerrado" vegetation restoration area by planting seedlings, evaluating if the 2 meter spacing between them is sufficient to inhibit the growth of invasive species by shading, provided by the canopy's closure within three years. It is proposed to draw up a list of woody species that have the best development in a degraded area of "Cerradão" at Bauru region. (AU)
