Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a member of the normal human microbiota, however, may cause superficial, invasive or toxic diseases. It is also found as the main cause of hospital infections and can develop resistance to certain drugs such as methicillin and, in rare cases, vancomycin and other antibiotics. Being component of human microbiota, S. aureus can be easily transferred to abiotic surfaces such as lab coat used by students and health professionals, and thus spread themselves in the community. It is common to find students using the lab coats outside the laboratory and hospital environment, as seen in the streets, restaurants and even in the canteens of hospitals themselves, carrying microorganisms from within the hospital environment to the streets. However the opposite case can also occur, promoting the contamination of food, people, or even local and sterilized objects. Whereas multiresistant bacteria can be carried from different sectors of the universities, is of great importance to assess the antimicrobial susceptibility in lab coats Biomedicine course students using this Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in different laboratories during the class period and stage . Thus, this study aims to characterize S. aureus isolates coats students of biomedicine course at the University of West Paulista (UNOESTE) for susceptibility to antimicrobials.
