Abstract The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) is a high-energy particle physics detector operational on the International Space Station (ISS) since May 2011. Since its launch, the AMS-02 provided scientists a large amount of data whose precision was never before achieved, opening a new path for the study of cosmic rays. The student will work under the supervision of Professor Sadakazu Haino studying the cosmic ray electron flux. To this purpose, during the 6 months period of stay, the student will also be expected to take shifts of high responsibility, supervising the collection and transference of the data from the ISS. The IFSC group is the only Brazilian group participating in the AMS-02 collaboration. The proposed stage would increase the visibility of the IFSC group within the experiment, since this would be the first time for a student from this group to stay long term at CERN, attending weekly meetings and actively participating to the operations of the detector. | |
