Abstract

Aiming at following the path where C. G. Jung and other post Jungian authors traveled towards the crossroad between analytical psychology and art, I have made a preliminary research of bibliographic references on the theme. Initially, I have considered texts both from Jung himself, as well as recent Brazilian Jungian publications that deal with art related aspects (work, artist, creative process, etc.) . The scarcity of publications referring to the relation between art and its reception by the viewer led me to emphasize this particular slope, where analytical psychology and art meet - the relation between art work and the observer - as the cornerstone of the present research. The project aims at developing thoughts on the psychological experience as a result of the apprehension of the artwork by the individual. The fundamentals of the analytical psychology will be used as the basis of both, the comprehension and the methodology of the present research. Beside the above mentioned apprehension experience I will also develop thoughts on the present effectiveness of the analytical psychology theory as an instrument for art analysis. This will require: research for more literature on this subject; to take a deeper look into Jung's writings on art for further clarification of his thoughts; to map the artistic frame considered in the present work; to research psychology publications that explore aspects and phenomena related to the apprehension of artwork. The present work shall bring contributions to the field of analytical psychology and also unfold into several new publications related to the theme; it will also represent a tool to deepen the comprehension of the psychological experience related to the appreciation of artwork; it shall add to the foundations of the importance of the reception of art as part of education and its role in self-knowledge and eventually bring evidence on the social function of artistic expression in public spaces.
