Abstract

The subject of this research project is the ambiguous position of the interwar French ethnology vis-a-vis the literary and artistic avant-garde of Paris: despite its scientific claim, people, ideas and categories circulated through the frontier among this discipline and the literary and artistic realms. By using an evidential reasoning, this project aims to detect cracks in the ethnological classification, that is, the imponderable factors resulting from the application of its cognitive principles. The stage in question here concerns especially the research trip to Paris, already announced by the main project and considered essential for the writing of the proposed essays and therefore for the full accomplishment of the current project. This trip will be devoted in particular to the research of sources and bibliography in French archives, libraries and museums, but also to the presentation and discussion of its results in the French university, especially with Christine Laurière, an expert in the history of French ethnology of the interwar period.
