Abstract

The biggest amount of the Brazilian population lives in cities, which work like a dynamic structure, in continuous change. The study of their landscape form let us identify the process of the space transformation in each time. This subject of this research is to study the urban changes occurred in Baixada Santista Metropolitan Area in the last ten years, comprehending the relationships between urban fabric, the environmental bases and the transformations process which led to it. Investigating the relationship between the agents of space production and urban space; the role of State and the town planning codes as controllers of this process; which city is being made and what impact it will have in the local landscape. The recent economic development of Baixada Santista caused significant changes in their urban form, developing new landscapes. That one has been the subject of study as way to understand the transformation process in the metropolitan scale The present research is included in the QUAPA-SEL II research - The systems of open spaces in Brazilian contemporary urban form: production and appropriation (FAPESP nº 2011/51260-7), that has been developed in QUAPA-FAUUSP laboratory.
