Abstract

Among the indications for extraction of impacted third molars have been infection, periodontal disease, carious lesions, formation of cysts and tumors, root resorption, orthognathic surgery, orthodontic and prosthetic reasons. In this context, surgery with ultrasound (piezoelectric bone surgery) is a promising field representing a meticulous system for preserving the soft tissues during bone cuts, based on ultrasonic micro vibrations. Objective: To evaluate the effect of tissue detachment, ostectomies and odontosection using surgical ultrasound and rotating device in the third molar extraction. Methods: Forty patients aged between 18 and 30 will be part of this study. Patients will undergo the extraction of third molars right and left, one side using the conventional technique with high speed and the other using the surgical ultrasound. Patients are divided into 4 groups according to the method used for each surgical step detachment and odontosection and osteotomy. Patients will be assessed for swelling, pain and trismus in periods of 01, 03, 07 and 14 days after surgery, in addition to surgical time for each of the techniques.
