Abstract

Dieresis, hemostasis and synthesis are steps of surgical techniques used not only to treat diseases but also for aesthetic purposes. For that reason, it is necessary that surgeons have technical and scientific knowledge, as well as psychomotor skills to perform them. That is why live (vivisection) or dead animals are still used to practice these techniques. However, this practice is currently questioned for humanitarian, ethical and animal welfare reasons. The purpose of this project is to build and apply a dieresis, hemostasis and synthesis model (MDHS) as an alternative method for students of the Veterinary Surgery Technique subject of the Veterinary Medicine course at Faculdade de Zootecnia e Engenharia de Alimentos (FZEA) - University of São Paulo (USP), at the Pirassununga Campus, and to evaluate its acceptance as a learning tool. It is expected that de MDHS will be considered suitable for training of skin and subcutaneous tissue dieresis, hemostasis by means of transfixation ligature and synthesis using the main suture standards of approximation, invagination, evagination, overlap and confection of surgical knots by hand and through use of a needle-holder, with the idea that it will be another resource for student skills development.
