Abstract

The Araçá Bay (Sao Sebastiao, São Paulo, Brazil) is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on São Paulo coast. This environment, however, is constantly threatened by human activities and requires integrated studies for its conservation. The analysis of changes in soft-sediment communities have become an important tool in the assessment and monitoring of the environmental quality. In this regard, the aim of this research project is to characterize the soft-sediment communities of Araçá Bay, investigating how these communities are structured and their relationship with different factors, including hydrodynamic processes, contaminants, geomorphological control and spatial and biotic variables.
