Abstract

Coatings and paints are always exposed to various aging stress factors, including temperature, humidity, ultraviolet radiation, mechanical stresses, atmospheric oxygen, and chemicals transported by air, that impact on their durability in the long term, causing its "aging" . A common failure mechanism for organic coatings is the photo degradation due to UV exposure. In order to minimize these defects, it is added in the coating formulation additives that absorb ultraviolet radiation to protect them, wherein benzophenones, benzotriazols, triazines, malonates and oxalanilides are the most commonly used in the market, however the zinc oxide (ZnO ) also has unique features that make it an excellent ultraviolet absorber, especially when nanoparticulate. In this work the molar absorption coefficient of ZnO nanoparticles, it will be performed via co-precipitation in ethanol using aditives will be evaluated in function of annealing in liquid phase.
