Abstract

Dengue is the most important arboviral disease worldwide with regarding to morbidity, mortality, and clinical implications. The main symptoms of disease are fever, arthralgia, myalgia, headache, rash, nausea, vomiting and malaise, and other arboviruses present in a similar manner and must be considered in the differential diagnosis in cases of Dengue virus (DENV) infection is suspected.While acute manifestation of Dengue are well known, there are a limited number of studies about clinical manifestations during early convalescence stage of infection and long-term consequences, as well as neuropsychiatric conditions associated to the infection. Some studies show the main late manifestations, as myalgia, arthralgia, asthenia, irritability, headache, anorexia, alopecia, are referred until 2 years after DENV infection. Furthermore, a part of patients with Dengue presents neuropsychiatric symptoms, as anxiety, panic attacks, thanatophobia and insetofobia, the latter being retained after 6 weeks of DENV infection in some patients. The close clinical surveillance of persistent and neuropsychiatric symptoms during or after Dengue infection is an important tool in the search for strategies that can contribute to the management and rehabilitation of such patients.
