Abstract

Basic sanitation is a matter of great importance and concern worldwide. In Brazil, about 40% of sewage receives treatment, disparities between regions, such as the case of the North, with only 14.4%. Similar rates are found in China, which is about 35% of the sewage generated. Global data from the United Nations (UN) indicate that 80% of the sewage produced by human activities is released untreated into the environment. The sixth objective of the 17 presented by the UN in 2016 is to ensure access to water and sanitation for all. In order to assist decision makers on the choice of municipal sewage treatment systems, a simulation software was developed, whose source code has been registered at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), with the name "treatment plant simulator sewage, here called "ETEX Simulator". The overall objective of this project is to evaluate the online simulation free platform ETEX to aid decision making for choosing municipal sewage treatment systems, from tests with real data. It is an applied research, which will be collected actual data sewage treatment systems and extensive testing will be done at ETEX Simulator to identify possible distortions or inconsistencies, as well as indicate the necessary adjustments in the same. It is expected this research contribute to the simulation platform to help Brazilian and foreign municipalities in the implementation of sewage treatment systems, contributing to the universalization of sanitation, environmental improvement and public health.
