Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effect of preoperative endoscopic biliary drainage in the nutritional status and inflammatory cytokines in patients with pancreatic cancer. Patients: Prospective, longitudinal study will be conducted with 10 pancreatic cancer patients, which was indicated endoscopic surgical biliary bypass before tumour resection. Methods: Before surgery endoscopic biliary shunt and before tumour resection (2 to 4 weeks after biliary bypass) patients will be asked about the weight gain, gastrointestinal symptoms and functional capacity. Measures of body composition (anthropometry and bioelectrical impedance) were measured, food and fatigue questionnaires will be applied. Blood sample for micronutrients, visceral proteins, vitamins A, C and E, plus the pro-inflammatory markers (TNF-alpha and IL-6) will be collect in two moments of the study. Statistical analysis will be done with the Statistica 8.0 software, using the non-parametric test of Wilcoxon. For all analyses, a 5% significance level will be established.
