Abstract

The increasing life expectancy and the consequent growth of elderly population results in a need of studies that identify a way of better quality of life of this population. Falling is one of the risky factor that involves elderly population health especially elderly with cognitive deficit that are more vulnerable to falling. The analysis of the march on these elderly is essential to understand the factors that lead to falling and come up with treatment plans to prevent the elderly from this high risk of damage to them. Objective: Correlate the estimate energetic cost with kinematics variables in the march on institutionalized elderlies. Methods: Will be evaluated 30 elderlies from both sex with cognitive decline, the gait phases will be detected by pressure sensors (footswitches), located on the base of the hallux and the heel of both feet. The cost of walking will be estimated by the stance time of gait. The data collection will be made in a walkway of 10 meters, in a chosen velocity. Will be considered the variables: stance time, stride time, balance time, gait speed, double limb support time and oscillation of center of mass. Will be considered for the statistics analysis the Spearman or Pearson correlation test, considering significant p < 0.05. (AU)
