Histologic evaluation of linear bone loss and loss attachment connective tissue in rats submitted or not to cigarette smoke inhalation with orthodontic movement and induced periodontal disease

Abstract

This study will evaluate the reactions of periodontal tissue during induced tooth movement in rats associated with periodontal disease (PD) and the inhalation of cigarette smoke. The sample will be of 60 rats evaluated for tooth movement and inhalation of cigarette smoke in the variable: PD. The animals at 90 days of age and weight approximately 300 g will be randomly separated in smoking conditions (n= 30) and non-smokers (n = 30). Regardless of systemic condition, 15 animals receive in the right mandible induction of periodontal disease with orthodontic movement (PD + O) and mandible left of the same animal is only induce periodontal disease (PD) by ligation. Another 15 animals receive the right hemimandible only orthodontic movement (O) and left mandible serve as positive control (C+). Exposure to cigarette smoke will be initialize two months before and maintained throughout the trial period until the sacrifice. Macroscopic measures will be taken of tooth movement immediately following sacrifice. The slides will be prepared and stain with HE. Linear Bone loss and loss attachment connective tissue will be evaluated in the alveolar crest region of the first molar.
