Analysis of cardiorespiratory parameters in patients with stroke submitted to aerobic training

Abstract

The stroke (cerebrovascular accident) can be defined by a brain tissue damage due to a bleeding point or an inadequate supply of oxygen in this tissue; it is, therefore, classified by hemorrhagic stroke and an ischemic stroke, respectively. It is estimated that, worldwide, every year 15 million people are affected by stroke of any sort. In Brazil, this has been one of the main reasons for hospitalizations and the leading cause of cardiovascular deaths, representing 30% of them, according to DATASUS (public domain data from the Unified Health System).The consequences of this brain tissue damage are severe, leading to neurological deficits and, by result, sensory, motor and cognitive impairment, and may vary according to the affected area and degree of complexity. Between these compromises, there is also an impact on the cardiovascular system of the survivors. Studies show decreased blood flow in the femoral artery of the affected limb (hemi paretic patient) in comparison to healthy contralateral member in ret and exercise, which suggests an abnormal cardiovascular regulation. There is also evidence that individuals undergo an exercise of submaximal effort get an improvement of cardiovascular response capacity by increasing the blood flow to the femoral artery, as well as increasing its diameter. The evaluation of cardiorespiratory capacity claims that the maximum VO2 in individuals with bird is decreased by up to 45%, however, in response to submission to physical exercise, these individuals have improved in this parameter. Recent research claim that the lack of exercise right after the stroke can contribute to the rapid decline of the cardiopulmonary capacity, that the cardiovascular damage may be the result of physical inactivity and the focus on impact cardiovascular workouts can be beneficial for increasing the supply of blood flow to the limb hemi paretic patient. Therefore, considering the high incidence of stroke mortality in Brazil, their severe damage and limitations that can lead to an individual, it should be considered studies that deepen the knowledge about the rehabilitation of the affected. The improvement of cardiorespiratory work may cause on the system is extremely important to understand that the aerobic training of the individual can mean a big difference in health impact during the rehabilitation process.
