Abstract

This project aims to answer the question: what relationship the works of Belmiro de Almeida (1858-1935) have with the art and poetic art of the late nineteenth century? This question leads us to two central goals, and one presupposes the other - the first raise and catalog the works still unknown artist Belmiro de Almeida, grouping them together to works already known and cataloged. The second, more specific, strives to locate production of the artist within the concerns regarding the developments of the post-Impressionist pictorial movements of the European tradition. Belmiro de Almeida was a student at the Imperial Academy of Fine, in Rio de Janeiro, without the travel prize, but funded by friends, he spent five years touring Europe, a period that covers the years from 1888 to 1892. In those years produced many works in foreign territory, but only a few currently integrate collections in museums. The survey of these works aims to give visibility to both works of public collections, and especiallythe works from private collections or are in the art market. Thus, this project is justified by the need for knowledge of the productions of artists who worked in international scenarios, in the period before the year 1920. Taking the works of Belmiro intend to focus on this period and subject that are still gaps in the history of Arts Brazilian plastic.
