Abstract

The advance in the use of ceramic materials for monolithic restorations obtained via CAD/CAM stimulated the investigation of their mechanical properties towards different challenges. However, little is known about how the surface of these materials behave towards the action of acidic substances from extrinsic (diet) and intrinsic (gastric juice) factors. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of the gastric juice on roughness, hardness, loss of substance and color stability of new restorative materials. Forty-eight discs will be obtained from the following monolithic ceramic materials: Vita Suprinity and IPS e-max CAD, which will be initially (Reading 1) submitted to roughness analysis (n=12), weighing of the specimens (n=12), color stability (n=12) and hardness (n=12). After that, they will be divided into two groups according to the following treatments: 1) storage in artificial saliva (control) (n=6) and 2) erosion by hydrochloric acid (n=6), corresponding to 1 year. Then, specimens will be submitted again to the same analyses (Reading 2) in order to detect changes that they may have suffered. After Reading 2, the specimens obtained for color stability analysis will be immersed in coffee 2x/day for 30 days and a third Reading will be performed. In addition, 2 discs of each material will be analyzed in SEM, before and after exposures. The results will be submitted to statistical analysis based on previous analysis of normality and homoscedasticity. (AU)
