Abstract

The tobacco, in spite of being a drug legalized, is responsible for six million deaths around the world every year. It is known that prolonged interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) associated with the use of medicines have the highest success rate for smoking cessation. However, the literature data show that a large number of participants (41%) who enter into these programs left treatment and do not reach the success. Objective: To identify and understand the factors that facilitate and inhibit the adhesion of individuals who participated in a program of cessation of smoking adapted to the program of smoking recommended by the INCA. Methods: A qualitative research will be carried out to respond to the objective of the proposed study. The data from qualitative research will be collected through discussion groups. Individuals, of both genders with over 18 years of age, who participated in the Orientation Program and Tobacco Free Awareness (PROCAT) of UNESP in Presidente Prudente and who attended at least 8 meetings of the total of 22, will be invited to participate in the study. Data analysis: The transcripts in verbatim of discussion groups are initially analyzed by two independent researchers to identify and classify the categories from the data in relation to the issue of research. The analysis of the content will be developed as a means of categorizing data for classification purposes, organization and compression. After this initial analysis, the entire group of researchers will discuss the differences in the results until a consensus is reached. Qualitative analyzes will be performed and stored in the program NVIVO (QSRNVivo version 9). (AU)
