Abstract

Introduction: Major depressive disorder (MDD) affects about 5 a 10% of the world population and it is related to loss of life quality. Furthermore, it's related to high rate of non-recovery and recurrence, therefore there are many patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD). However, there is a lack of consensus in defining this condition. The European Medicine Agency define TRD when consecutive treatments with two different antidepressant products, used for a sufficient length of time at an adequate dose fail to induce a clinically meaningful improvement. To treat this condition, it's also important to priorize the patient's perspective about the illness and about the treatment. Objective: Understand the psicological meaning about the treatment with antidepressant and also about the depression itself in the perspective of the patient with TRD. Method: Clinical-qualitative methodology, in a clinical setting, using the method of interview semi-structured. The patients will be chosen by the researcher if they fill the condition of TRD and the data will be analyzed based on a qualitative method with support of psychology theories. (AU)
