Abstract

Immune-mediated thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) is an important autoimmune disorder characterized by thrombocytopenia induced by the action of autoantibodies promoters of platelet destruction and decreased megakaryocytopoiesis. The use of biopsy/bone marrow aspirate is recommended for selected cases such as the elderly, or with atypical symptoms that arise differential neoplastic diagnostic possibilities. A classic and unique morphological pattern to the bone marrow in ITP does not exist. The association between different morphological findings and clinical-prognostic parameters has been little explored in the literature, and is therefore a suitable theme to new approaches that can provide aids able to justify the need to use the bone marrow biopsy/aspirate in these patients.
