Abstract

Introduction: The relationship between metabolic, cardiovascular and respiratory responses during incremental respiratory muscle endurance test (RMRi) has been few studied, and in the literature there has been some work with answers in isolation. Thus, the study of the relationship between these responses could help clarify the conditions under which the metaboreflex occurs and the contribution of each system evaluated for maintenance of respiratory muscle work. Objective: To relate the metabolic (tHB, O2Hb, HHb), respiratory [Vt, VE, VO2, PETCO2 and respiratory muscle efficiency (Wext/VO2RESP)] and cardiovascular (HR and MAP) responses, with the work of breathing (Wext) for the intensity (50%, 60%, 70%, 80% and 90% of MIP) of RMRi test in healthy young adults. Materials and Methods: Ten young men, 20 to 40, apparently healthy, will be submitted to RMRi test (POWERbreathe K5). During RMRi test ECG signals are captured and derived HR (BioAmp FE132), and the acquisition of SAP, DAP and MAP (Finometer Pro). Metabolic responses (tHB, O2Hb and HHb) will be collected by means of spectroscopy in the near infrared (NIRS) (Oxymon MKIII), the external intercostal and vastus lateralis muscles. Already the ventilatory variables (Vt, VE, VO2, PETCO2 and Wext/VO2RESP) will be evaluated through a system of expired gas measurements (ULTIMA MedGraphics). Still, it will be calculated Wext and Wext/VO2RESP. The data will be analyzed by specific statistical tests (parametric and nonparametric) according to the data distribution and their respective variances. Significance will be set at p<0.05. (AU)
