Abstract

Gripopterygidae (Plecoptera) is composed by 52 genera and about 300 species, 100 of them recorded in the Neotropical region. Currently, the family is divided into five subfamilies being Gripopteryginae endemic of South America. They are characterized by legs with a pair of distoventral spurs on each tibia, forewings with a long Cu1 fork, hind wings with 6th anal vein fused to wing margin, male genitalia with epiproct tip not recurved and absent or very small in some genera, tergite 10 sclerotized, posterior sclerite absent. The BEPE scholarship entitled "Revision on Neotropical Gripopteryginae (Insecta: Plecoptera: Gripopterygidae)" will be developed in the Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco (UNPSJB), Esquel, Chubut, Argentina, and aims to contribute to the increase of systematic knowledge about Gripopterygidae, especially for Gripopteryginae. Thus, a database will be organized to make possible a broader systematic analysis of the Gripopterygidae. At the end of the project the following objectives should be achieved: 1) a revision of Gripopterygidae species of the Patagonian realm; 2) a revision and phylogeny of Gripopteryginae species; 3) a list of Gripopterygidae species recorded from Neotropical region; and 4) contribution to the set of morphological data to be used for phylogenetic relationship hypothesis of Paragripopteryx.
