Abstract

The research proposal is to identify and analyze the ways of the theming of the "individual" in Latin American sociology in the period surrounding the end of military dictatorships implemented in several countries until the most recent formulations as well as the methodological means used for such intent. It is especially attentive to the direct and indirect links between the production of such knowledge and the historical moments in which they were made, highlighting the persistence of various socio-economic problems affecting their populations in different ways. Thus, it is expected to understand the approaches to the individual-society relationship by sociologists, i.e. the features that theoretically operates the connection between "part" and "whole", putting in perspective the discipline development processes to the present. For this, the reading and analysis of relevant texts on the questioning will be held considered, mainly those from the five countries where more widely settled the Latin American social sciences: Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Uruguay.
