Abstract

This research project has the proposal of the study on archaeological occupation on the interfluve of Araguaia and Peixe rivers. On this project we aim to realize a contextual study of two excavated sites denominated Lago Rico and Cangas I. The focus of this research is destined to the bibliography lifting and ethnohistorical sources; with this lifting we aim to use a geochemical approach since the soils can be distinguished by physic and chemical characteristics, and most of them are important to initiate the archaeological research. With this analysis, other variables will be evaluated with the sites' archaeological contexts, as the space and landscape occupation and the modifiers factors of this occupied space. In this moment it will be possible to realize inferences having the care about space occupation, formation of archaeological sites and settlements patterns. I point out that this research has the objective to provide significant information to Archaeology, given the region's importance of Araguaia valley to Brazilian archaeology once that this tell us about the pre-colonial occupation on one of the main rivers of South America in relation to the occupation of groups from village sites. With this interdisciplinary research we aim to test assumptions on pre-colonial occupation and we aim that this will contribute to a better scientific knowledge on cultural dimension from human groups that in life used this space.
