Abstract Recent progresses in fabrication and control of nano-mesoscopic systems have allowed a series of important experiments concerning the dynamics of dissipative quantum particles. Such observations have fomented a growing interest for using such a devices for storing and processing quantum information, as well as implementing thermal machines. That approach has provide important connections between quantum information and thermodynamics. This project has the goal of exposing the student to basic concepts of open quantum systems and to address non-Markovian features of those systems. For that, the student will investigate a possible extension of the two Brownian particle model, in order to contemplate the possibility of having non-Markovian effects. There is the expectation that, as it stands, the project will prepare the student for topics related with the thermodynamics of quantum machines. (AU) | |
