Abstract

The civil construction generates environmental impacts that deserve special attention, since it produces more waste than others economic activities. The recycled aggregates from construction and demolition can be reused in different areas, presenting appropriate mechanical and hydraulic behaviors when compared to virgin natural materials. This research consists of studying the feasibility of recycled aggregates reuse as construction material in base and sub-base layers of pavements. Thus, recycled aggregate characteristics will be monitored over time and soil-aggregate mechanical properties will be compared in two conditions: composed by crushed natural rock and recycled aggregates. From research results, it is expected (I) to understand if there are significant variations on abrasion, water absorption and specific gravity of recycled aggregates (II) to compare mechanical behavior of mixtures containing conventional and recycled aggregates, based on compaction and CBR results, and (III) to comprehend if changing the compaction energy makes the soil-recycled aggregates suitable for different pavement layers.
