Abstract

The long term care facilities for elderly have a limited social and physical environment. This encourages inactivity and restrain in community and social activities. One of the activities to stimulate older people is physiotherapy through playful exercises and adapted to the facility context. Objective: This study aims to analyze the perceptions of older residents of long-term care facilities regarding functional rehabilitation. Method: This is a qualitative research with a phenomenological methodology. Residents of two facilities of both sexes and aged 60 years or older will be included. Those with communication and language impairments, with cognitive deficits, who are out of the facility during data collection, frequency in rehabilitation less than once a week and who do not want to participate in the research, will be excluded. To characterize the sample, we will collect sociodemographic data, the Mini Mental State Examination, the Barthel Index and the Timed Up and Go mobility test. In order to describe the perception and interpretation of the experience with functional rehabilitation by the elderly, semi-structured interviews will be conducted with guidance questions. The interview will be held at the facility, being recorded in audio format and lasting approximately one hour. There will also be blind observation of the recreation activities to analyze the behavior of the elderly during the rehabilitation. All interviews will be fully transcript with the support of the data diary. An analysis of the content of interviews with the categorization of information into units of meaning will be done. (AU)
