Abstract

The infertility is defined as inability to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of sexual relations well distributed throughout the menstrual cycle without use of contraceptives; it reaches 15% of couples of reproductive age. The etiology of failures in production process and function of spermatozoa is due to pre-testicular, testicular and post-testicular factors. With motility classification methodology established by the WHO is possible to classify the motility of spermatozoa as: (I) progressive motility - spermatozoa actively moving linearly regardless of speed and are able to fertilize an oocyte; (II) non-progressive motility - spermatozoa without progression, like swimming in small circles, or perform only one flagellar beat; (III) immotile - without spermatozoa movement. Although several acquired factors (phenotype) are described as harmful to the male fertile potential, is still not clear what factors negatively affect spermatic mobility, resulting in astenozoospermia. So, we intend to determine which factors related to the habits and lifestyles of men are related to the quality of sperm motility. Will be a retrospective study that will investigate electronic medical records of fertile patients between the years 2000 and 2016. The criteria of inclusion adopted will be men aged 18-45 years who have undergone the medical evaluation and conducted semen analysis and sperm function tests. Will be excluded from the study patients with incomplete medical records or who do not meet the above conditions. The patients will be classified in 2 groups in according to the progressive motility (PR), PRd32% to> 32%. The groups will be related to the parameters of habits and lifestyles of the patient. The results presented by the groups will be compared for homogeneity of variances and normality of residuals. In case they are homogeneous, the Student t test will be used (for comparing 2 groups) and analysis of variance ANOVA (to compare 3 or more groups). If not homogeneous, the Tukey´s test will be used (Tukey's HSD) to check which groups differ. Subsequently there will be a Pearson´s correlation test to verify possible correlations between the study variables. For all the study will be adopted an alpha of 5%. (AU)
