Abstract

Sailinty affects the germination of seeds by osmotic stress, where the absorption of water during embebition decreases with the decrease of external osmotic potential. The physiological conditioning can develop different defense mechanisms on seeds against saline stress, altering the antioxidant defense system and the osmotic adjustment. Therefore, the objective of this work is to verify if conditioned parsley seeds tolerate saline stress during germination. The parsley seeds will be conditioned in PEG 6000 solution and the best conditioning (osmotic potential and conditioning time) will be used in the saline stress stage. The seeds will be put to germinate in substracts moistened with NaCl solution in the concentrations of zero (control), -0,2 MPa, -0,4 MPa, -0,6 MPa, -0,8 MPa and -1,0 MPa (with and without conditioning). Physiologic (germination percentage, radicular protrusion, germination rate, seedling growth and dry mass) and biochemical (activity of the enzymes peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase) potentials of the seeds will be evaluated. The results will be analysed statistically through normality tests (Shapiro-Wilk), variance analysis (ANOVA), the averages will be compared through the Tukey test at P>0,05 of meaningfulness (SISVAR) and in function of the osmotic potentials the regression analysis will be adopted.
