Stain resistance of a hybrid dental ceramic after bleaching

Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate color stainability of a hybrid ceramic, a direct composite resin and an indirect composite resin, previously submitted to bleaching. Cylindrical specimens (10 x 1.0 mm) will be obtained by following materials: hybrid ceramic based-on the concept of Polymer-Infiltrated-Ceramic-Network (Enamic - Vita), indirect nanoceramic composite resin (Lava Ultimate - 3M ESPE) and direct composite resin (Z350 - 3M ESPE). The materials will be divided into two experimental groups: without or with application of 35% hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel, followed by immersion in: distilled water (control); coffee and red wine (n=12), to evaluate the staining potential of bleaching treated materials. Color change (E) will be evaluated by spectrophotometer using CIE L*a*b* (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage) parameters before and after beaching and before and after immersion in the different solutions. In addition, roughness (Ra) will be evaluated using a confocal optical microscope and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) analysis will be carried-out to verify superficial changes. Furthermore, microstructure will be analyzed by SEM, and inorganic phase concentration of the materials will be evaluated by Archimedes' Principle. Color change and roughness data will be submitted to normality and equality of variance to select the statistical test (±=5%). Descriptive analysis will be performed the other tests. (AU)
