Abstract

In order to identify potential areas for landfill deployment in Metropolitan Region of São José dos Campos, the main sub-region of the Paraíba do Sul River Basin (UGRH 02), it is proposed in this research project a study involving the joint analysis of different criteria based on environmental, operational and socioeconomic aspects by geoprocessing techniques in a GIS (Geographic Information System) environment. The definition of the criteria will be performed in order to consider the local reality, the available data and the current regulations. Moreover, the minimum area for the landfill to have a useful life of at least 10 years and will be calculated according the population and the volume of solid waste generated in the study area. Thematic maps with constraints will be prepared and integrated in order to determine potential areas to host a sanitary landfill. (AU)
