Abstract

My project is to investigate the use of teleological explanation in Aristotle's embryology. My research will concentrate on some of the challenges Aristotle has to meet in order to develop a teleological account embryonic development. In particular, I will focus on the question of the ontological status of embryos, on the problem of spontaneous generation, on the Aristotelian notion of monster, and on the phenomena of ageing and decay.
