Abstract

Physical activity has been shown to be a way of reducing negative experiences that follow the process of smoking cessation. Feedback is considered psychoeducational method to influence the levels of daily physical activity. Therefore, its necessary investigate its effect on the smoking abstinence and on other outcomes, in order to realize the role of physical activity in the treatment of smoking. Objectives: evaluate the influence of feedback on physical activity levels in steps per day and functional capacity of smokers. Methods: Smokers included in a smoking cessation program (both genders and age between 35 and 55 years old) will be assessed for levels of daily physical activity and functional capacity in four moments: while they are remain smoking and in the first, fourth and eighth week of abstinence. Individuals will be spitted up into two groups, one group will receive feedback from the assessments and the other will not, additionally, both groups will receive encouragement on practice of physical activity. The feedback will be conducted individually in the second and fifth week of abstinence, under verbal and written form (through educational booklets).Statistical Analysis: the data will be analyzed using the statistical software GraphPad Prism. For data normality, analysis will be used Shapiro Wilk test. For comparison, analysis in the moments before and after performing the feedback will be held t test of Student paired or Wilcoxon test, according to data normality. For comparison between the smoking group with feedback and smoking group without feedback will be used t test of Student unpaired or Mann Whitney test according to the normality of the data. The significance level will be 5%. (AU)
