Abstract

Mortar outer coatings constitute the first barrier to degradation agents and thus are critical to the durability of the constructions. Throughout their service life, coatings suffer loss of performance in service by failing to perform the functions required of them. In situ inspections require the knowledge of the performance characteristics of the applied coatings, which allow to evaluate their state of degradation as well as the degradation mechanisms by which they are affected. In addition to this knowledge, it is also necessary to understand the operating principles of the inspection techniques used, as well as the parameters they evaluate, in order to facilitate the analysis of their results. In this work, the visual inspection will be performed, as well as the techniques of non-intrusive inspections of infrared thermography, Karsten tube, humidifier, determination of the surface hardness with a durometer and identification of soluble salts with colorimetric strips for evaluation in Situ study of the physical performance of external mortar coatings, in which the information obtained will be used in the elaboration of an analysis of the techniques regarding the identified pathological manifestations. Inspection campaigns will be carried out in buildings other than the north and central areas of the campus of the Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP, in Presidente Prudente, which will allow the study of facings with constructive characteristics (type of support, type of coating mortar, type of finish) Tests in different inspection conditions during the period. It is expected that the analysis of the results obtained will prove the usefulness of the in situ test techniques, as a complement to the visual inspection, in the evaluation of pathological manifestations related to loss of physical performance in service of applied mortar coatings.
