Abstract

In the one-dimensional cutting stock problem with usable leftovers (CSPUL), a set of demanded items must be produced by cutting standard objects (bought from suppliers) or retails of previous cuts. Similar to the cutting stock problem (CSP), the demand of the items and the availability of the objects are given. Demand must be met by cutting the available objects with the objective of minimize the waste or a convenient objective function. Retails can be generated to stock and are not computed as waste. The study that involves the CSPUL is recent and few papers present a mathematical model to obtain the solution to these problems. Therefore, in this project, we will modify a mathematical model from the literature to solve the CSPUL. With the modifications, retails will be generated with a specific amount. Furthermore, a heuristic procedure will be proposed to obtaining integer solutions for the CSPUL. Implementations will be developed and, to verify the performance of the proposed procedure, computational tests will be realized with instances randomly generated, instances from the literature and, if possible, with real problems.
