Abstract

In this project will be approached for the first time the two-dimensional cutting stock problem with usable leftovers and uncertainty in future demand. This is a scientifically challenging problem of great practical importance for many companies, with a strong economic and environmental impact, due to the reduction in the consumption of raw materials. In addition to being an innovative application in the area of operational research, mathematical models to represent the problem will be proposed and, from the methodological point of view, original contributions will be made by proposing the hybridization of exact methods with metaheuristics in the simultaneous development of solutions and scenarios that adequately represent the demand uncertainty. Besides the study focused on questions of demand uncertainty of items, as it is a problem still poorly explored in the literature, the two-dimensional cutting stock problem with usable leftovers will also be explored, as well as solution methods will be investigated. The proposed solution methods will be evaluated from instances that represent real situations. In addition to its innovative nature, this project's strengths lie in the extensive experience in cutting stock problems of the international co-advisor and in its integration with a FCT/FAPESP (2018/07240-0) project: "Incerteza em problemas de cortes e empacotamentos: planejamento robusto e replanejamento otimizado na produção e nos transportes". The advisor and the co-advisor are part of this project. The activities to be developed in this PhD project are also part of the FAPESP thematic project (2016/01860-1) of which the advisor is linked.
