Abstract

AbstractNowadays, society is facing a series of challenges such as global warming, intensified by the emission of gases from burning fossil fuels for energy generation, and environmental pollution. In face of increasing energy demand, the intense development of alternative energy sources is necessary in order to minimize existing environmental problems. In this context, a factory complex similar to an oil refinery has been proposed, called "biorefinery" capable of (i) producing bioenergy, biofuels and various types of high added value products and (ii) promoting the control of environmental pollution of water resources. During the anaerobic biological process of conversion of constituents, especially organic matter, to the desired final products, it is important to identify the trace elements and their respective concentrations, as these can have a direct influence on the performance of biotechnology. This postdoctoral research project aims to make feasible methodologies for the determination of trace elements in anaerobic reactors within the framework of the linked Thematic Project, so that this characterization of trace elements can contribute to the maximization of energy production, especially in the form of biogas. Keywords: wastewater, bioenergy, biogas, trace elements, anaerobic reactors.
