Abstract

Nowadays, population growth has presented challenges to society in terms of disponibility and quantity of vital resources to population. Human occupation processes intensify environmental degradation and ecosystem services, such as water and food supply, lose qualitatively and quantitatively as a result of actions towards economic profit which overlook environmental conservation. Racional land usage aim to balance natural resources needs and food and energy supply needs. This action has been searching for spreading concepts and techniques of conservation and proper handling which intend to reduce negative actions upon ecosystems in order to protect compartments of soil, water, air and living organisms. For the sake of identification of natural resources potentialities, the usage of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology, associated with remote sensing, is presented as an efficient option to favor environmental characterization of a region and elaborate a database with quality which could contribute in creating a local strategy. Classifying physical characteristics and usage and vegetal cover based in Ross (1994) methodology, this present paper has the objective to analyse the environmental fragility in the city of Mogi Guaçu, State of São Paulo, using the software ArcGIS 10.3.1 applying the fuzzy logic in physical characteristics and usage and vegetal cover classes, which will be able to contribute in a environmental planning more adequated to the city.
