Abstract

The heyday of regenerative medicine has a title that is well known, stem cells. In dental medicine, several studies converge to the development of mechanisms that use stem cells for and replacement of buccal tissues, since dental and periodontal tissue loss are common abnormalities that irreversibly threaten the general health of the patient. However, so far, the protocols for rehabilitation of the stomatognathic system is basically non-biological. The present project aims to establish techniques of acquisition, differentiation and characterization of odontoblasts from stem cells originated from the dental pulp. So, we will use techniques of cell culture, extraction and purification of genetic material, gene and protein expression analysis using confocal scanning laser microscopy. With this project, it is expected that a new line of research, which unites the dental clinic and the basic research lab recently installed in our Institution. (AU)
