Abstract

This research aims to analyze the critical reception of fiction work by Jose J. Veiga, a Brazilian writer who wrote 12 books (the first one in 1958 and the last one in 1997), including novel, romance and short stories. Considering the time of publication of Veiga's first books, the critical reception have highlighted different approaches such as fantastic and revolutionary aspects, producing several and, many times conflicting, interpretations for the author and his works. Thus, this study intends to compare texts on journalistic criticism (articles, reviews and other texts on literature) related to the author's work and his narratives, from the years of 1959, the year of publication of his first book, to 2016 when the newest editions of his works were published. Via a careful analysis of these journalistic texts, this study, based on the proceedings of FROW (2004), will compare the different approaches, considering the changes in social and political scenario. Such effort will allow distinguishing different readings that evoked Veiga's fiction over times. (AU)
