Abstract

The family Anacardiaceae is characterized by presenting trees, shrubs and rarely herbs and lianas. It is found in tropical and subtropical environments, with many species occurring in the Cerrado. Cerrado native plants often have peculiar characteristics that allow them to resist stress. Astronium fraxinifolium Schott, popularly known as 'Gonçalo-Alves' is one of the tree species of Anacardiaceae of the Brazilian Cerrado. The purpose of this work is to perform a physiological characterization of A. fraxinifolium, aiming to recognize characters related to possible physiological changes in the leaves, related to environmental stress caused by nutritional deficiency. To do so, samples of two populations of A. fraxinifolium will be collected in the "FEPE" (Fazenda de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão - UNESP) located in the municipality of Selvíria - MS. Both populations are the same age and differ because one has received the necessary nutrients for its development and the other has grown in degraded and nutritional deficient soil. Leaves will be collected in the two study areas. From the samples will be made quantification of nitrogen compounds, nutritional contents, gas exchange and carbon allocation comparing the study areas, also addressing if there is difference between the sexes.
