Abstract

Psychoanalysis is one of the areas of knowledge that seeks to understand transsexuality, however, there is no consensus on it among psychoanalysts. On the one hand there are those who put it in the field of psychosis, as Lacan, while there are those who would disagree with such a diagnosis. Catherine Millot, a lacanian psychoanalyst, in "Extrasexo: essay on transsexualism (1983/1992) " conceives a way of understanding transsexuality keeping the diagnosis of psychosis. Her work has been the target of various criticisms, however, even today, many psychoanalysts are based on her work and in her appointments for clinical practice. In this way, we intend to examine the work of the author, considering the criticism already established, selecting the following topics for analysis: pathologization, definition of transsexuality, the issue of surgery and Millot's theoretical assumptions about transsexuality. Afterwards, will seek to investigate authors who propose addressing the transsexuality from the Lacanian concept of Sinthome, relating with the formalization of Millot on the Borromean Knot. (AU)
