Abstract

Breast cancer is a highly prevalent disease and highly diversified, however, a part of these tumours present oestrogen receptor that as they are activated, induce tumour growth, becoming a target for treatment. Hormonotherapy decreases the level of oestrogen in women, either by competitive inhibition (tamoxifen) or by inhibition of peripheral conversion of oestrogen (anastrozole). Because the treatment decreases hormonal levels, it can lead to symptoms menopause-like, besides increasing risk of cardiovascular problems and endometrial cancer incidence, as does tamoxifen. When side effects become intolerable, it is necessary a switch in therapy. The objective of this study is to evaluate switch in therapy regimen in women with breast cancer using oral hormonotherapy. This is a five-year retrospective study with information gathering on the computerized system of Women's Hospital Prof. Dr. José Aristodemo Pinotti - Centro de Atenção Integral à Saúde da Mulher - CAISM - UNICAMP and medical records of the women who had a switch in therapy in this period.
