Abstract

This research project aims to understand how cinema visualized the body marking - or tattooing -, which has been a social and artistic phenomenon inherent in human societies since time immemorial. The films Papillon, Once Were Warriors, Memento, Eastern Promises and Tatuagem will be analyzed, associated with texts by sociologists, art historians and philosophers such as Vitor Sérgio Ferreira, William J. Thomas Mitchell and Michel Foucault, to study the body marking from the point of view of cinema. (AU)
