Abstract

The increasing concern with the diminished fossil fuels sources and with all the environmental damage this kind of energy causes has led to the need of innovating the production of biofuels as a renewable and sustainable energy source. Since Brazil is the biggest sugarcane producer in the world and one of the firsts in bioethanol production, the country is responsible for the greatest generation of lignocellulosic residues from this kind of crop. Trichoderma reesei is a very efficient producer of lignocellulosic enzymes, thus it shows great industrial importance regarding to the degradation of the lignocellulosic material in sugar monomers capable of going through alcoholic fermentation. In order to optimize the degradation process so the whole bioethanol production can become financially viable, the complete characterization of MAPK pathways is needed, since these pathways are responsible for the transcriptional response to external stimuli and regulate the production of enzymes and metabolites inside the fungal cell. In this project, we aim to identify the direct and indirect targets for phosphorylation by MAPK, as well as the phosphorylation sites in transcription factors related to the regulation lignocellulosic enzymes, through phosphoproteomics, in T. reesei cultivated in glucose and sugarcane bagasse.
