Abstract

The study of neuroanatomy is essential for adequate knowledge of neuroscience, an area of extreme importance for generalist doctors and other health professionals involved in the subject, especially considering that there was an increase in the prevalence of neurological, neurodegenerative and neuro-oncology disorders in world due to increased life expectancy. Currently, dissection of formol fixed brains is widely accepted but important details of the central nervous system structures are usually missed if a dissection protocol is not followed. Without a study guide, irreparable damage can also be generated to the neuroanatomic structures, a serious matter, considering the increasing difficult access to these organs. The existing dissection protocols use two-dimensional images to illustrate each step, which is inadequate for good spatial learning and connectivity of the central nervous system structures, considering its complexity. This study aims to create a guide for dissection techniques for the study and identification of the cerebral sulci, gyri and ventricles with three-dimensional representation of each step for more effective understanding of techniques and central nervous system structures with minimum damage to the neuroanatomic pieces.
